In response to the increasingly violent challenges facing law enforcement, the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) was created in 1983 to promote the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) required to deal with these growing threats to a safe and sane society. Today, the NTOA is the leading non-profit association dedicated to the advancement of the Special Weapons and Tactics profession throughout the world. By providing highly realistic training, and disseminating tactically significant knowledge and information to qualified law enforcement agencies and individuals, the NTOA is ushering in the next evolution of SWAT. The NTOA has more than 35,000 members. The governing body is comprised of experienced tactical commanders from throughout the U.S. Recently NTOA also expanded its capabilities to share tactics and data in the crisis negotiations field.
